Finding the optimal stress state of a stainless-steel IPE profile for fatigue experiments

Pilot fatigue experiments of a stainless-steel IPE80 profile showed local bending at the top flange and global stability loss. Therefore, in this paper we present non-linear numerical study such to achieve an optimal stress state reduce possible loss keep distribution close Euler-Bernoulli’s beam theory. This was assessed by reaching tensile bottom less than material’s yielding strength varying span profile’s height loading options from three-point four-point bending.
